What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about REY MAUALUGA: Southern Cal, 6016 249 4.85. Three-year starter. An explosive impact hitter at the point of attack. Good change of direction. Downhill player that fills the running lanes with quick initial reactions. Has a burst in pursuit. Built like former Eagle linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter. Thick lower body with a long torso. Good balance. Has the agility to step over blockers and work through traffic. Can turn and run. Has a burst to close on the ball carrier. Blows up running back blocker when he runs through on a blitz. Generally plays with a good knee bend. Bottom line is that he is powerful, fast, quick, and can cover the pass. Very average instincts. Must see it rather than feel the play. Undisciplined at times, both on and off the field. Will miss tackles because he is out of control and doesn’t break down. Plays with a good base and leverage. Fits the hole well and is a physical tackler who punishes the ball carrier. Powerful attacking blockers but gets tied up too much. Spends too much time working through a block and lacks a great shed technique. Has the explosiveness to develop in this area. Normally takes good angles in pursuit. A top prospect that needs to be more consistent. At times he shows an extreme amount of energy and is a high motor player. Has the tools to work with and should be a solid Mike. Strained a right hamstring on first 40 of the Combine. Shorter arms than ideal. Big hands. Better in a confined area than in space. Had 273 tackles, 22 1/2 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, and 5 interceptions. First/ second round. (A-31 3/4, H-10, BP-23, SS-DNP).
