Draft Rewind 2010 - Jimmy Graham - New Orleans Saints

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about JIMMY GRAHAM: Miami, 6063 259 4.55. Started one game in the only year he played. Four-year basketball letterman, one year of college football. Still learning the game. High cut. Will need to work to bend his knees to play low. Struggles as a blocker. Good eye-hand coordination. Not a natural hand catcher. Cradles and traps the ball. Good straight line speed and leaping ability. Waits on ball instead of going up after it at the high point. Needs work in every phase of his game - patterns, coverage recognition, release, separation, catching the ball short and long, inline blocker, and downfield blocker. One speed player that is a developing size/speed prospect. Big target with long arms. Career and 2009 stats are 17 catches, 213 yards, 12.5 yards per catch, and 5 touchdowns. OSR: 1/13. Fourth/fifth round. (A-35, H-10 5/8, BP-DNP, VJ-38.5).

Draft Rewind 2006 - Eric Winston - Kansas City Chiefs

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about ERIC WINSTON: Miami, 6065 310 4.94. Started 28 games. Played left tackle for the Hurricanes. Angular and thin-limbed build that is more finesse than powerful. Comes off the ball with a flat back. Sustains contact with defender. Lacks strength in his anchor (thin-hipped). Plays too high and doesn’t bend his knees consistently. Has talent and tools. Not as explosive and powerful as you’d like for a tackle. Recruited as a tight end. Struggled in 2005 in pass protection. Recovered from an ACL in 2004. Wall off position blocker. Good initial quickness. Can recover and redirect. Takes good downfield angles. Slips through and cuts off backside pursuit. Has shorter arms and smaller hands than ideal. Struggles with edge speed and two-move defensive ends. Lacks surge on run blocks. Tried to maul but doesn’t move his feet. Needs more overall strength. Gets up on his toes in pass protection. Can improve his hand use to control defenders. Strength is a major issue. Bunkley, from Florida State, drove him five yards in the backfield. Third or fourth round ability that will get drafted high because of athleticism. Second or third round. (A-32 1/4, H-9 1/4, BP-DNP, 10-1.70). Originally drafted by Houston.

Strong in both the pass and run game. Mentally and physically tough. Explosive hitter. Good body control. Quick feet and good change of direction. Plays with confidence and attitude. Daring. Draft Rewind 2011 - Colin McCarthy - Tennessee Titans

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about COLIN MCCARTHY: Miami, 6012 235 4.65. Three-year starter who can run and has good athletic ability. Active. Averaged 10 tackles per game as a senior playing inside linebacker. Competitive and intense in his play. Top effort player with a high motor. Quick initial read and react, does a nice job getting downhill and to the ball. Smart player, good angles to the ball and quality drops in coverage with good zone awareness. Good technique, uses his hands well to take on blocks and redirects off the block to the ball. Above average footwork when attacking a block. Occasionally will under run a play but for the most part is extremely instinctive with an excellent nose for the ball. Takes good drops in coverage, reacts well on the throw with no wasted steps. Good coverage awareness, sees the receiver and the quarterback. Has good range in pursuit and plays fast with no wasted movement. He is a quality linebacker who played well both inside and outside. Has a chance to be a productive “blue collar” NFL starter. Will contribute on special teams. Career stats: 304 tackles, 34 1/2 TFL, 4 sacks, 6 PBU. Edge speed:left 2.13, right 2.41. OSR:7/44. Fourth/fifth round. (A-30, H-10 3/8, BP-23, SS-4.20).

Draft Rewind 2002 - Ed Reed - Baltimore Ravens

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about ED REED: Miami, 5110 201 4.50. Four year starter with experience at free and strong safety. Well-built but smaller than ideal with relatively short arms and legs. Very productive player. Good athlete with solid man coverage skills for a safety. Smooth in his backpedal. Can turn and run well. Speedy. Instinctive. Breaks on the ball skillfully. Aggressively looks to make plays — is a natural interceptor with good hands and body control — runs well after the pick. A little out of control at times — sometimes is too interception conscious. Shows toughness as a tackler but is a bit inconsistent in that phase — doesn’t attack the run as forcefully as he might. Solid special teams player with kick blocking ability. Quality prospect.

Draft Rewind 2004 - Vince Wilfork - New England Patriots

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about VINCE WILFORK: Miami, 6012 325 5.10. Junior eligible. Productive rotation player early in his career. Dynamic first year starter in ’03. Not a classic specimen. Shorter than ideal — has a big belly. Thick-legged with a wide upper body and excellent strength. Explosive off the ball. Has a quick first step and is powerful into blocks. Does a good job of controlling his man, fighting the double team, and clogging the middle. Holds the point well. Usually plays low. Will overextend and go to the ground a little too much. Separates and sheds well, but he can be late to locate, as he sometimes gets too focused on the blocker and doesn’t look for the ball. Forceful tackler — can bring down a runner on the spot. Limited range type player — runs well for his size but is not an all-out pursuit player. Solid inside pass rusher with a fine combination of strength and aggressive moves. Uses his hands well. Keeps his feet active. Short strider with a strong closing burst. Quality prospect — needs to control his weight.

Draft Rewind 2003 - Andre Johnson - Houston Texans

What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about ANDRE JOHNSON: Miami, 6020 230 4.40. Junior eligible. Two year starter. Improving. Imposing specimen. Tall and sturdy with a muscular upper body and very long arms for a wide receiver. Excellent athlete. Still a bit raw as a route runner but he shows a burst out of his cuts and is a physical over the middle target. Legitimate deep threat with a pullaway gear. Is an aggressive snatcher who attacks the ball but has inconsistent hands. Outstanding leaper — dangerous in jump ball situations. Playmaker after the catch — has a quick stutterstep move to beat the first tackler. Tough competitor. Physical blocker — explosive when taking on linebackers and safeties on running plays. Can overpower and sustain downfield when going against smaller defenders. Not quite as polished or productive as most top receiving prospects, but he has superb tools.

Draft Rewind 2007 - Jon Beason - Carolina Panthers

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about JON BEASON: Miami, 6002 237 4.78. Junior entry. Two-year starter. Strong, physical, and versatile. Sudden to read and react. A cover linebacker that is a good blitzer. Solid wrap up tackler. Good instincts to react to run or pass. Finds the ball quickly and maintains leverage on the ball. Always around the ball. Gets down hill quickly. Plays square and takes the openings when there. Quickly fills the inside run aggressively. Can take on and slip blockers. Speed to run down the outside run. Sheds quickly. Doesn’t stay blocked. Fluid in his pass drops. Can turn and run. Can play short or deep man-to-man coverage. Good open field tackler. Will contribute on special teams. Undersized. Will get walled off at times because of height.Team’s leading tackler and hardest hitter. Flexibility to play inside or outside depending on a team’s scheme. Can knock a ball carrier backwards. Demonstrates quick movement out of transition to break on the ball. Appears to be mentally and physically tough. A competitor that will initiate contact and perform at a high level. Can stack and defeat lead blocker despite size. Good balance to stay on his feet, protect his legs, and read on the run. Good use of hands and agility getting through traffic. Plays with good knee bend, functional strength, and knee bend. First/second round. (A-33 1/2, H-9 1/2, BP-19, SS-DNP).

Draft Rewind 2006 - Devin Hester - Chicago Bears

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about DEVIN HESTER: Miami, 5105 190 4.43. Junior eligible. An athlete that can return and has experience as a corner and wide receiver. His speed and versatility are his strengths. Has a burst after he catches the ball. Every part of his game is inconsistent because he is a jack of all trades and a master of none. He has fringe size as a receiver or corner. As a receiver his patterns were raw. Question focus on the ball. As good a returner as he was two years ago, his decisions and ability to catch the ball were inconsistent. Can turn and run as a corner, but his techniques and skills were off. Many times players with rare speed go in the third or fourth round. This is where he could fit if not lower. A man without a position. (A-31 1/8, H-8, SS-4.20, VJ-38).

Quicker rushing from the left (2.00) than the right side (2.16). Lacks bulk strength at the point of attack. Wiry strong. Backside chase player. Can be single blocked. Slender frame. What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about ROCKY MCINTOSH: Miami, 6021 237 4.63. Three-year starter. Speedy sideline-to-sideline linebacker. Can cover backs and tight ends. A top athlete that can face up and wrap tackle. Doesn’t come off the field. Good lateral agility. Technique sound. Downhill linebacker that sheds quickly and gets to the ball. Sudden takeoff on the blitz. Has a burst to the quarterback. Accelerates off a block. Demonstrates good instincts and anticipation. Suddenness in his body. Tough and competitive. His long arms help him ward off blockers. Plays square to the line of scrimmage. Can play inside or in space. Has an injury history that may cause him to slide. Shoulder problems and had a knee scoped. A Will linebacker that is very athletic and productive. Doesn’t stay blocked. Sells out on blitz. Fast twitch that plays fast. Second round talent. (A-32 1/2, H-9 1/4, BP-18, SS-4.20).

Richard Gordon, Oakland Raiders, 181st Pick, 6th Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Gordon, Richard Miami 6034 265 4.85
Richard Gordon is a big tight end who can run. He only had 10 career catches at Miami in a rotation role, but he missed a majority of the 2009 season with a shoulder injury. A developmental prospect, his pro day numbers on 3/25/11 were: 1.71/10, 25/BP, 32.5/VJ, 9-1/BJ, 4.49/SS, and 7.38/3 cone. Allen Bailey, Kansas City Chiefs, 86th Pick, 3rd Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Bailey, Allen Miami 6030 285 4.77
Started 24 games over three years. Looks the part. Long arms and big hands. Naturally strong. Plays with intensity, strength, and quickness. Good effort to finish plays with backside hustle. Played in a 4-3 defensive front scheme and was in a regular rotation where he was always fresh. Also moved inside in some packages to play defensive tackle. Had 19 sacks and 31 tackles for loss over his career. May project to a 3-4 end where he can two gap and keep the offensive linemen off his linebackers. Instincts are off. He must see it because he can’t feel it. More deliberate than quick twitch. Plays high at times and loses his power and strength. Gets pushed and turned by mediocre blockers. Inconsistent ability to control the defender with effective hand use. Will get stuck on a blocker when he has technique breakdowns. Has a ton of natural talent, but may need to be limited in his assignments to take advantage of his talent and strength. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

DeMarcus Van Dyke, Oakland Raiders, 81st Pick, 3rd Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Van Dyke, DeMarcus Miami 6006 176 4.28
Started 22 games. Lost starting position as a senior. Slender and angular corner who demonstrates press cover skills. Needs more tackling strength. Rare timed speed for his position. Doesn’t play to rare speed because he lacks the strength to carry his pads. Can run with most receivers down the field. Has good foot quickness and the ability to drive and burst on a ball in front of him. A developmental corner with fringe tackling skills. Will contribute on special teams coverage. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

Friday, July 1, 2011

Leonard Hankerson, Washington Redskins, 79th Pick, 3rd Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Hankerson, Leonard Miami 6015 209 4.43
Two-year starter with long arms and big hands. Plays both the “x” split end or “‘z”’ flanker position. A good athlete who had his best year as a senior. Improved his consistency in 2010 catching the ball, but still double caught and dropped routine passes at times. A good sized target with deep speed. Does a good job of working back to the ball. A competitor who will catch the ball in a crowd. Can make the vertical over shoulder catch. Tracks the ball into his hands. A good route runner. Inconsistent quarterback play held down his numbers, but contributed to his ability to catch off target passes. Senior Bowl notes: demonstrated receiving consistency catching the ball during the week. On game day he didn’t catch the ball clean at times and had some drops. He did catch 5 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in the game. Beat press coverage with quickness and speed. Set several Hurricane receiving records, including breaking Michael Irvin’s season touchdown mark. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Brandon Harris, Houston Texans, 60th Pick, 2nd Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Harris, Brandon Miami 5094 191 4.53
Junior entry. Three-year starter. Shorter than ideal for a starting
corner, but has good leaping ability. Smooth in his turns with
good hip flexibility. Miami’s best one on one secondary defender. Struggled against big receiver, Michael Floyd from Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl. Instinctive and competitive. Can play outside or man up in the slot. Has a quick burst to close suddenly or can make up ground. Plays faster than timed speed. Sudden to quick key and force the run and tackle. Good ball skills to play the ball down the field. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Orlando Franklin, Denver Broncos, 46th Pick, 2nd Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Franklin, Orlando Miami 6054 315 5.12
Three-year starter with long arms and big hands. Strong hands
to grab the steering wheel and drive the defender into the ground.
Has some violence in his game. Plays left and also has experience
at right tackle and left guard. Good punch. Explosive in his play.
Leaks through and seals linebackers on the second level. A knee
bender with a solid lower body that is flexible and hard to knock
off his feet. Good body control. Possesses the size, strength,
balance, and base to anchor against power. A good use of his
active hands but will lobster grab a defender outside the frame at
times. A good athlete with foot quickness, body control, recovery
in pass protection. Slides and moves his light feet. Shadows the
pass rusher. Can be explosive out of his stance but comes off slow
at times. May lose concentration. Has the talent to be an eventual
starter if he gets stronger and stays technique sound.
For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.
