Draft Rewind 2005 - Logan Mankins - New England Patriots

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about LOGAN MANKINS: Fresno State, 6041 307 5.14. Three-year starter. Physical player. Former walk-on. Played left tackle, projects to an offensive guard. Aggressive on down blocks. Keeps a good base. Ties up linebackers on second level. Needs work on his angles to second level. The team runs behind him. Good use of hands. Keeps them inside defender’s frame. Can dominate opponent at times. Maintains contact and finishes play. Can bend his knees and play low. Position wall off in pass protection. Aggressive. Plays on his feet. Good balance. Plays with leverage. Struggled in the Senior Bowl with the move from tackle to guard. Lunged and was a waist bender in drills. Was not physical and was beaten off the edge when he played tackle in drills. When the defender got the jump on him, he turned it down. Anchor was below average. Was not agile and didn’t react well to quick defenders. Stopped on contact during pulls. Played left guard in East/West game and was aggressive in the run game. Stayed engaged. Demonstrated good mirror and slide. Was voted Fresno State’s most valuable player. Missed 2003 with a torn right ACL. Should be a solid player, but the Senior Bowl left questions. Late second or third round choice.

Andrew Jackson, Atlanta Falcons, 210 Pick, 7th Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Jackson, Andrew Fresno State 6051 302 5.34
Four-year starter. High ankle sprain after four games in 2010. Played in bowl game against Northern Illinois. An average athlete with short arms and fringe functional strength. Tough and physical in his play. Competitive, intense, and active. Effective use of his hands in both pass protection and in the run game. Looked rusty at the East/West Shrine game but he pancaked Marvin Austin in the game. Works on his initial block then will hustle downfield. Mirrors and slides his feet effectively on pass protection. Can anchor a bull rush. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

Chris Carter, Pittsburgh Steelers, 162nd Pick, 5th Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Carter, Chris Fresno State 6011 248 4.58
Three-year starter. A natural edge pass rusher. Explosive first step quickness. Active and athletic. Uses multiple moves. Supreme effort as a pass rusher. WAC Defensive Player of the Year with 11 sacks and 16 1/2 tackles for loss. Fast twitch with suddenness in his body. Hustles to the ball. Plays defensive end in a four man front, but projects to an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. Plays low with good knee bend. Has a third gear burst to the quarterback after he accelerates off a block. Good use of hands, speed, quickness, and strength in his pass rush skills. An explosive wrap up tackler who doesn’t give ground. Hits with authority. Moves well on his feet. Will need to develop coverage skills, but his job title will be to “rush the passer”. Will contribute on all special teams. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.
