Big play receiver that had seven of his catches go for at least 50 yards in 2009. Will reach and extend for the ball outside his frame. Average quickness off the line of scrimmage to beat bump coverage and burst upfield to separate. Saw a lot of single coverage because of the offensive scheme running the ball. Has the size and strength to run the inside slant and dig routes. Has run after catch ability to break a tackle or make a defender miss a tackle. Good football intelligence to learn to line up in different alignments. Will need work on reading coverages and adjusting his routes according to the play. Long strider that picks up speed as he goes down the field. Has big soft hands but will drop the easy catch when not focused. Perfunctory blocking effort. Average quickness into and out of his breaks. Inconsistent to drop weight. May miss all spring workouts because of fractured left foot. Averaged 25.1 yards per catch on 46 receptions and had 8 touchdowns in 2009. Second/ third round. (A-33, H-10 1/2, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP). We could not put Thomas in the 1st round without verified 40 time.

Big, strong, smart, and athletic with rare intangibles. Rotated his freshman year with Chris Leak. Has directed the Gators to two national championships in three years. Dangerous in the jail break screens, hitches, and underneath routes to slip a tackle and take it the distance. Cal tries to get him the ball in a variety of ways. Will reach and extend for an off target pass. Will run reverses to put pressure on the defense. Elusive and speedy. Dependable hands. Quick in and out of routes. Should contribute as a punt returner if he can stay healthy. Not a blocker, tries to get in the way but is not willing. Lacks strength to break tackles or stay on course. Explosive in the open field. Can be routed because of his slender build. Will struggle with cover two press coverage on the next level. Needs route refinement on NFL caliber patterns. Is far from a finished product. Has a load of natural talent but may be in the tub or on injured reserve for much of his career. Durability, strength, and the ability to carry his pads will always be a question. A physical enforcer in the secondary. Receivers know where number 10 is at in the secondary. Long arms with good jumping ability. Can cover tight ends and backs out of the backfield. Can stick his foot in the ground and drive quickly on a ball in front of him. Quick burst. Has some hip tightness. Plays the ball. Takes a direct line to the receiver. Has the speed and range to overlap the corner down the field. A confident and daring safety who will undercut a route to make a big play.

Three-year starter who majors in man to man coverage. Gets position and plays with good technique. Has natural instincts and reactions. Always in position to make a move on the ball. Will lay out. Can get his hand on the ball to knock it away. Will line up nose to nose to jam a receiver. Good stance, balance, and strength. Physical striker. Doesn’t overextend or lunge. Smooth backpedal with a good base and quick feet. Can stay in backpedal as long as possible. Can transition out of pedal to all route angles. Good stop and go quickness. Quick plant and drive. Has a burst to close quickly on the ball. No false steps. Competitive and tough minded in his play. Plays with confidence.

Started parts of two seasons with the bevy of standout linebackers backing up the Tar Heel line. He is all about speed and athletic ability. Runs track at Carolina where he set the indoor 60-meter record at 6.72 seconds. He has also run the 100-meters in 10.6 seconds. Major contributor on special teams’ coverage units. Can stick his foot in the ground and get downhill fast. Sideline to sideline player who will play best as a weakside fast flow linebacker. Active but out of control as a tackler at times. Must learn to adjust his speed on the run and keep leverage on the ball carrier. Quick acceleration with excellent catch up speed. Hard to block because he’s a moving target.

Two-year starter and a junior college transfer from Fort Scott Community College. Was the Big 12 defensive newcomer of the year and a first team All-Big 12 pick. A tackling machine, he set a Cornhusker record with 152 tackles, averaging about 11 per game. He also had six sacks for 50 yards in losses. A special teams’ standout on coverage teams. Natural and instinctive in his ability to recognize and react to run or pass. Has a nose for the ball. An impact hitter who loves contact. Reacts immediately to keys. Good football aptitude. Very competitive. Aggressive and physically tough. Explodes downhill quickly on run throughs. An athletic knee bender who plays with balance. Slips blocks and stays on his feet.

He was devastating in the win over Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl, racking up 5 tackles, 3 which resulted in losses, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. He was named the game’s Defensive MVP. For the year he made 52 tackles, 14 ½ for loss, and tallied 7 sacks. Upshaw played on the edge of the defense, not in the middle where he is projected. Plays well on his feet. High motor, quick twitch athlete who is off on the snap of the ball. Plays with good knee bend and explodes from the ground up when taking on a blocker. Has excellent speed and good range to cover his assignments. Keeps blockers off his body. Uses his hands effectively and can string out a blocker to the sideline. Takes smart angles. Hustles all out and has the speed to make an impact hit. Does not get hooked. Plays with good outside leverage and controls his area in the run game. Reacts well to run or pass.

Three-year starter who is a wide body that plays square. Has the size, strength, temperament, and toughness to play a two gap nose tackle. Possesses good agility and ability to change direction. Flashed bursts of quickness when he fought through three blockers to make a sack in the Holiday Bowl. Takes good angles and gives effort in short pursuit. Has the instincts and recognition to eat up space and do his job. Good functional strength at point of attack. Can control the blocker, separate, shed, and stuff the ball carrier from tackle to tackle. Agile enough to drop into coverage on zone blitz packages.

Can change direction and has good functional movement along the line of scrimmage and down the field. Shows an intense desire to run down a ball carrier. Was in on 56 tackles, 7 ½ tackles for loss, and 15 quarterback pressures. Disruptive player who gets his hands up in the throwing lane and batted down three passes. He not only relies on quickness, but can shed the blocker and accelerate to the ball in a short area.

Three-year starter who is an explosive and athletic tackle and end combination player, depending on a team’s defensive scheme. Can play tackle or end in the 4-3 or an end in the 3-4. Nebraska plays a 4-2-5 defensive package. A very reactive player with good instincts. Plays well inside out. Takes good angles downfield in pursuit. Finds the ball quickly. Feels pressure and reacts on the move. Reads and reacts quickly to offensive line blocking angles, trap, and combination blocks. A right place at the right time player. Always around the ball. An unselfish player who draws double teams and stacks the line of scrimmage so the linebacker or other line mates can make a tackle.

Good use of hands to neutralize block and control the blocker with strength. Has a quick thrust to get control of the blocks. Has the size to stay inside and stack the run and double teams. Has the ability to dip and lean, rushing the passer from the outside edge. Good lateral quickness to avoid the reach block.

The rangy tackle plays with good knee bend, balance, and shoulder width base. Good flexibility for a big man. Can bend and anchor a bull rush, yet is mobile enough to seal the edge of the defense. A battler with decent jab and recoil. Redirects and stays square with the ability to shadow a pass rusher. Quick react and recover to blitz pickup. Light feet and finish ability.

Plays smooth, square, and balanced in his pass pro. Can snap his hips and dominate his opponent. Has the physical tools to lock up a defensive tackle or edge pass rusher. Intense on snaps. Sticks with his man. Strong leg action and sure hands to steer or turn the defender. Plays with attitude and aggressiveness. Quick initial move and lateral agility to seal the edge in the run game. Can adjust to a power or speed rusher to block the edge in the pass game.

Can lock on with his strong hands and steer his target. Particularly strong on the second level to seal and block linebackers. Fundamentally sound, physical, tough, and intense in his play. Gets his power from his flexible hips, knees, and ankles. Has the ability to stay balanced with knee bend. Can block on the move. Good effort and ability to block downfield. Powerful on down blocks. Athletic when he pulls and fold blocks. Good initial quickness and movement to adjust on the run. Good body control and follow through. Has the size, strength, and balance to anchor and hold his ground against a bull rush.
