Draft Rewind 2011 - Stevan Ridley - New England Patriots

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about STEVAN RIDLEY: LSU, 5112 225 4.64. Junior entry. Started nine games in career. An I-formation back who is a straight ahead north/south runner who can pick his way through traffic. Drives legs on contact. Generally gets what’s blocked. Not always a creative runner, but runs hard. Picks up his feet and can step through tackles. Downhill with zone cut back vision. Lowers his shoulder and will hit and spin off the tackler. Can slip tacklers or make a defender miss in space. Skips through the line and can make a linebacker grab for air. Explosive into the hole at times and flashes a quick cut and burst up the field. Combines different running styles to gain yards. A tough kid who can break tackles. Keeps his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage and runs to daylight. A natural hand catcher who is rarely used in that role. 2010 stats: 1147 yds, 4.6 ypc, 15 TDs, 11 receptions for 61 yds. OSR:20/36. Fourth/fifth round. (A-31 7/8, H-9 1/4, BP-18, SS-4.21).

Draft Rewind 2011 - Drake Nevis - Indianapolis Colts

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about DRAKE NEVIS: LSU, 6007 294 5.06. Started 17 games in his career. At LSU, the Tigers rotate 7-8 defensive linemen to keep them fresh. Nevis is a disruptive impact player with lateral quickness. He can make plays when he’s blocked. There were times where we observed that he was double-teamed, held, and tackled. Quick hands to stack, spin, and separate. Pushes the play deep. Quick arm over. Fights through blockers to make a play. A player with a fierce sense of competition. Loves to compete. Mentally and physically tough. Plays with nimble feet and clogs up the running lanes. Constricts the hole. The key to his game appears to be a low pad level with good hand quickness. Rare hand use. Explosive first step quickness to force inside pressure. Tough for a center to single block him. Plays with great emotion and intensity. A good effort player who finishes plays with quickness and speed. Multiple move player with club, arm over, and rip. Because of his height, he will get hung up at times on his arm over move. Works from short to long pursuit. Good angles. An ideal under and nickel tackle. 2010 stats: 56 tackles, 13 TFL, 6 sacks, 3 FF, 1 FR. Edge speed:left 2.24, right 2.47. OSR:12/25. Second/third round. (A- 31 1/2, H-9 3/8, BP-31, 10-1.67).

Draft Rewind 2011 - Kelvin Sheppard - Buffalo Bills

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about KELVIN SHEPPARD: LSU, 6021 246 4.66. Two-year starter who is physical and emotional in his play. Good leader. Doesn’t stay blocked. Quick to separate and hustles to the ball. Nose for the ball. Quick to sniff out the middle screen. Plays fast sideline to sideline. Has experience at all three linebacker spots in the 4-3 defense. Stays on his feet and plays square. Takes smart angles. Good lateral agility. Senior Bowl notes: excellent initial read and react. Good first step and gets downhill with no hesitation. Solid tackle to tackle player with good inside run instincts. Decent range and can get to the ball outside. Very aggressive taking on blocks but tends to get locked up as he looks for the ball instead of defeating the block. At his best with a clear path to the ball. Takes a decent drop in coverage but has average range and change of direction reacting to the throw. Plays the run well but struggles in coverage and in space. Career stats: 311 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks, 26 TFL, 7 PBU. Did not work out at the Combine due to right hamstring injury. Edge speed:left 2.04, right 2.23. Third/fourth round. (A-32, H-9 3/4, BP-22, SS-4.28).

Draft Rewind 2011 - Patrick Peterson - Arizona Cardinals

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about PATRICK PETERSON: LSU, 6002 219 4.34. Junior entry. Two-and-half year starter. The top player at any position in the 2011 Draft in our opinion. Big, fast, athletic, flexible, strong, intelligent, confident, and competitive. As an additional bonus he has exceptional punt return skills, averaging over 16 yards per return. As a kickoff return specialist he averaged a gaudy 29.1 yards per return. It is doubtful that he will return kickoffs if he is a starting corner. Good foot quickness and change of direction ability. Can stick his foot in the ground and drive on the ball in front or plant and go get a ball in the air. He can drive and snap off quickly. Has recover ability. Sticky man cover ability. Physical in press man to man. A smooth athlete who can accelerate to top speed quickly. Closing and catch-up speed. Built like a running back. Attacks the football with outstanding eye-hand coordination. Can match up on opponent’s top receiver. He locked horns with Alabama’s Julio Jones three years in a row. Plays square. A top level competitor who can play the run or the pass equally as well. An explosive player who will look back for the ball while leaning into the receiver. Won’t let a receiver off the line. Blankets his target. Good concentration on the ball in the air. Snatches ball in a crowd. A playmaker. Dynamic with the ball in his hands. A threat to score a touchdown after an interception or a kick return. Confident in his return ability. Elusive open field runner. Teams generally stay away from his side of the field throwing or running the ball. He not only can take a receiver out of the game, but he can come off and make a play on another receiver in the area. Related to NFL players Bryant McFadden, and Santana and Sinorice Moss. Will both wrap and cut tackle. Voted the Bednarik (Defensive Player of the Year) and Thorpe (Defensive Back of the Year) Award winners. 2010 stats: 42 tackles, 1 1/2 TFL, 4 INTs, 6 PBU, 1 FF, 16.1 punt return average (2 TDs), and 29.1 kickoff return average. BTR:left 4.58, right 4.54. OSR:1/34. Top five talent. (A-32, H-9 1/4, V-38, SS-4.07).

Draft Rewind 2004 - Stephen Peterman - Detroit Lions

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about STEPHEN PETERMAN: LSU, 6040 312 5.44. Former defensive lineman. Three year starter at guard. A wide-bodied lineman with thick legs, a flabby build, and good strength. Ordinary athlete but a tough competitor. Average in his quickness off the ball but he strikes a strong initial blow. Good drive blocker who churns his legs and works aggressively for position. Not real quick footed. Loses his balance some. A little clumsy on the pull. Has some trouble adjusting on the move to make secure contact. Capable pass protector. Battles a little high but he’s an aggressive puncher who uses his hands well to control the rusher. Mauler type with a bit of a mean streak. Can anchor effectively. Not real smooth in his redirection. Alert and aware. Did well in the postseason. Has some limitations — needs to play inside — overachiever. (Originally drafted by Dallas)

Draft Rewind 2005 - Corey Webster - New York Giants

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about COREY WEBSTER: LSU, 6001 199 4.56. Two-year starter. Former wide receiver. Smart corner. Athletic with smooth pedal and good hips. Can turn and run versus deep routes. He plays within his limits. Lacks great catch-up speed. Gives a big cushion and reacts when ball is thrown. Seems to be a better zone than a true man player. Not special in bump and run. May be a better free safety with corner skills. Could react quicker in run support. Will give up the short pass in front of him. Fluid in movements. Good skills but speed will always be the question. Quick and athletic movement in press coverage. Good ball skills and jumping ability. Limited range, but good anticipation. Plays disciplined in coverage. Good hands to catch ball or deflect passes. Quick recognition of run or pass. Will lose focus at times. Short area burst. Generally can run with receivers but was hampered by injuries and was beaten deep. Sudden to close on ball in front of him. Matches up on the opponent’s best receiver. Did not look as smooth in his foot work as he did in 2003. Drag down type who lacks tackling strength. Matches up and can run with speed receivers, despite timed speed. Sudden ball reactions. More confident in man-to-man coverage than zone. All the tools to play on the next level. Injuries should be checked.

Draft Rewind 2007 - Dwayne Bowe - Kansas City Chiefs

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about DWAYNE BOWE: LSU, 6022 221 4.57. Three-year starter that is productive. A competitor with size, athletic ability, and speed for the position. Long arms and big hands. Catches the ball in his hands, extended away from his body. Runs with power after the catch. Can get off the jam with strength and quickness. Is tough to reroute. Will block downfield. Stays squared up. Can mirror and wall off defender. Comes off the ball quickly. Will layout for a bad ball. Good body control and run after catch ability. Has the size and strength to break tackles. Tough and intense player. Picks up speed going downfield. Will double move a defensive back. Can burst in and out of his cuts. Inconsistent hands. Loses concentration and focus. Creates mismatches with his size and strength. Will catch the ball in a crowd. Good concentration to find the ball in the air and then go get it. Will layout for the low ball. Gets off the line with strength and lateral quickness. Physical player that will block and go across the middle. Can break tackles with lower body strength. Quick reactions to poorly thrown passes. Good ball adjustments. Catches the ball in his hands. Generally a consistent playmaker that rarely drops a catchable ball. Long strider that picks up speed as he goes down the field. More of a power receiver than an elusive one. First round. (A-34 1/4, H-9 5/8, SS-4.37, VJ-33).

Quick off the ball. Holds his ground. Flashes some inside pass rush ability. Short arms. One gap pentrator. Keeps his hands moving. Struggles to redirect inside in traffic. Can slip a block. What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about GLENN DORSEY: LSU, 6014 297 5.00. Two-year starter that was the most decorated defensive lineman in college football in 2007. Looks like a better fit in a 4-3 scheme than a nose tackle in a 3-4. Has the strength and explosion to two-gap. Plays with leverage and a strong use of hands and arms. Long arms and big hands to stack point of attack. Sudden to disengage block and find the ball. Strength to pull and jerk blocker. Stays on his feet after controlling opponent. Quick reactions. Draft Rewind 2009 - Tyson Jackson - Kansas City Chiefs

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about TYSON JACKSON: LSU, 6041 296 4.95. Three-year starter that projects to a versatile 3-4 edge end or a 4- 3 tackle. Does not always play to his athletic numbers. Has a ton of God-given abilities but only uses it in flashes. Very athletic for a big man. May be asked to do too much and gets paralysis by analysis. Question instincts at times. Looks more like a run stuffing left end. Can hold his ground against double teams. Quick enough to get into the pass rush once he releases. Has quick hands and feet plus all the measurables – size, strength, and speed. Long arms and big hands. Will be drafted as a run stopper, not a pass rusher. He does have 18 1/2 sacks in his career. May be able to take advantage of single blocks and create pressure. Has been durable over his career. Edge speed:left 2.18, right 2.24. OSR:26/30. First/second round. (A-34 3/4, H-10, BP-20, 10-1.72).

Lazarius Levingston, Seattle Seahawks, 205th Pick, 7th Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Levingston, Lazarius LSU 6034 292 4.86
Two-year starter. Goes by the nickname Pep. Played in a rotation with experience at both tackle and end in a four man front. A developmental 3-4 end with long arms and big hands. Pushes the pocket but needs to develop more moves as he tries to power rush too often. Uses his body to stack the run game at him. Needs to get stronger to hold his ground consistently. Comes off high at times and loses his leverage. He does have some natural hand strength to knock the guard or tackle off balance. A better than average athlete who has a chance to work into a 4-3 tackle or a 3-4 end on the next level. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

Monday, July 4, 2011

Joseph Barksdale, Oakland Raiders, 92nd Pick, 3rd Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Barksdale, Joseph LSU 6046 336 5.38
Three-year starter who is a long-armed, height, and size prospect. Moved from right tackle to left tackle in 2010. The theme at both positions is the inability to block edge speed rushers. Lacks the ability and quick twitch to quick set, change direction, and redirect with natural body control. Plays with knee bend and light feet which is a positive trait. Has a breakdown in technique to recover and shift his weight to block a defensive end. Lazy feet. Underachieves when playing the intense speed rushers. Question compete. Can block the pedestrian pass rushers by walling them off and running them up the field past the quarterback. Shows flashes of what he is capable of doing in both pass protection and run blocking. Also has breakdowns leaking through to the second level and taking bad angles to cut off linebackers. A leaner, not a popper in pass pro. Will overextend blocking in space and goes to the ground. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

2011 Undrafted Free Agent, Terrence Toliver,Wide Receiver

Toliver, Terrence LSU 6035 211 4.59
Two-year starter who is a big West Coast type wide receiver
that runs slants, catches in a crowd, and is a stick and stay
blocker. Toliver was not as productive as his talent warrants,
due to the inconsistent play of the quarterbacks. Saved his big
game for last with a sterling performance against Texas A&M
in the Cotton Bowl. Caught two touchdown passes all season
before his three against the Aggies. A big target with run after
catch ability. Hands are inconsistent. Can make the tough catch
or drop the routine pass. Struggles to drop his weight in and out
of his cuts because of long legs. Picks up speed as he goes down
the field. Can track and catch the deep overhead ball. Has some
run after catch ability. Slippery after catch.
