What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about JASON SMITH: Baylor, 6050 309 5.09. Four-year starter including 2005 as a tight end. Long arms and good athletic ability. Physical in his play. Good short area punch. Plays in a two point preset stance. Has a frame to carry more bulk weight. Quick feet to mirror and shuffle his feet. Good initial arm push. Good balance and use of hands. Maintains balance when sliding with man. Can snap his hips and dominate man. Very effective. Has the physical tools to succeed as a pass protector. Will need technique work on the next level. A competitor that has the combination of foot quickness and ease of movement. Can attain, maintain, and regain balance. Quick enough laterally to cut off slant move or work pass rusher around quarterback. Works to maintain and finish his blocks. Will drop his hands and lose knee bend at times. Has the ability to regain body control and balance. Can redirect and shift weight quickly to defeat opponent. Sudden pivot and turn. Will fit in to a zone running blocking scheme with his lateral quickness and his ability to run his feet on contact. Effective to seal on the second level. Not a finished product, but works to get better. OSR:9/47. First round. (A-33 3/4, H-9 3/4, BP-33, 10-1.75).
