Robert Sands, Cincinnati Bengals, 134th Pick, 5th Round, 2011 NFL Draft

Sands, Robert West Virginia 6045 217 4.55
Junior entry. Three-year starter who is tall and a long strider. A leggy safety who struggles to bend his knees and break down to make a tackle or change directions. Plays in a 3-3-5 defensive scheme. Not quick-footed. Takes inconsistent angles to the ball. His height and long arms are a positive asset in the seams and underneath coverage where the quarterback must throw over the top of him. Not shy on run support. Will hit and wrap at times. At other times he thinks a big shoulder hit will get a back down. Marginal hip flexibility and recoverability. Double clutches at times in closing quickness. Has an injury history. A good athlete who is aggressive and undisciplined in his play. Has better than average hands to catch the ball. For complete report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.
