What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about VONTAE DAVIS: Illinois, 5111 203 4.44. Junior entry. Three-year starter. Outstanding athletic ability. One of the best things he does is get up the field to force point quickly. Will play off blockers and tackle. Reacts quickly to run reads. Has the size and the strength to string out the play. More of a hitter and cut tackler than a wrap up guy. Outstanding closing quickness in run support. Gets position on receiver and keeps it in man coverage. Has the footwork and quickness to do this well. Hard to shake. Has acceleration long and short. Not naturally instinctive to run/pass. Needs extra reps in zone coverage. Question ball reactions. Inconsistent in his play and his timing is off. Is in position but doesn’t always make a play on the ball. Lacks discipline and awareness. Has some hip tightness in his turns. Emotional and high strung. Question if he has a love for playing the game and will work to improve his weaknesses. High maintenance player that will only be limited in his ability to star on Sunday by his attitude and lack of coachability. Has NFL DNA as brother Vernon is a tight end with the 49ers’. Has more red flags than the Chinese National Army. BTR:left 4.66, right 4.54. OSR:1/ 32. First round. (A-30, H-9 1/4, VJ-36, SS-4.06).
