What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about MICHAEL JOHNSON: Georgia Tech, 6067 266 4.70. One-year starter. Long arms and big hands. Rare athletic ability. Explosive initial quickness. Gains an advantage with his first step upfield get off. Physically a Jevon Kearse look-alike. Long neck and long limbs. Tenacious edge rusher. Speed and acceleration are his game. Excellent frame, speed, and athletic ability. Drops into coverage at times. Can turn a corner and flatten down the line. Needs more strength to anchor against the run. Plays high. Can bend his knees but he comes up instead of out of his stance. Lays out to tackle quarterback. Can slap the ball out when he closes on quarterback. Exceptional when stunting, twists, etc. Emotional player. Can get up in the air. Can’t block him with a back. Has an injury history. Projects to a right defensive end. Will guess on count. Had several offside penalties. Best year was 2008 with 46 tackles, 17 1/2 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. He also batted down 7 balls. Not a hell bent for leather werewolf. More athlete than football player. May be a pass rush specialist only. Edge speed:left 1.85, right 1.96. OSR:3/30. Second round. (A-34 3/8, H-10 1/4, BP-28, 10-1.56).
