What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about ALEX SMITH: Utah, 6041 217 4.76. Underclassman eligible. Two-year starter. Productive in shotgun offense. Good athlete who makes plays with his feet. Played in an option oriented offense where the quarterback’s feet and legs are a key to the offense. Urban Meyers’ Bowling Green quarterbacks, Josh Harris and Omar Jacobs, have put up outstanding statistics in this offense. An edge type spread-thefield scheme that features option, running the corner, and ball control passing. Arm strength is still suspect. Can he throw it with velocity through a small window? Rhythm type passer who will have numerous nuances of a professional style offense to learn. Needs to get stronger overall. Good field presence, decisions, and ball placement to receivers. Needs work on taking conventional snap, driving away from center, and setting up quickly at throwing point. Work is needed on deep outs and crossing patterns. Steps into his throws. Strong intangibles: decision making, student of the game, intelligent, competitor, and solid character. Of the top three quarterback prospects, he has the longest way to come to start in the NFL.
