Second Day Quarterbacks 2011 NFL Draft

Kaepernick, Colin Nevada 6045 225 4.53
San Francisco Four-year starter who has
been productive with his arm and legs
over his career. Impressive mobility and deep ball accuracy. A
good athlete who can make all the NFL throws. Has a good
pocket presence to move and slide away from pressure. He ran
the Pistol offense that was developed by his head coach, Chris
Ault. The quarterback is closer to the line of scrimmage (4 yds)
than a true shotgun formation (6-7 yds). The running back lines
up 3 yards behind the quarterback. This formation was developed
to add power and an option running game to the spread offense.
The Steelers used some Pistol concepts with Ben Roethlisberger
in 2010 after Ben broke his foot. Kansas City, Miami, and
Detroit also dabbled with the Pistol offense. Kaepernick is a
hard working self-motivated athlete. For the complete report see
Ourlads Guide To The NFL Draft

Mallett, Ryan Arkansas 6067 253 5.37
New England
Junior entry. Two-year starter. Transfer from the University of
Michigan. A big man with a big arm. Can make all the NFL
caliber passes. Can throw the fade pattern with accuracy and
touch. Runs a combination pro and spread offensive scheme.
Takes ball in shotgun under center. Has the arm strength to take
advantage of coverage breakdowns. The ball doesn’t stay in the
air long. Good velocity. Plays in a complex offensive system.
Has the ability to manage the offense and handle adjustments.
Can drive the ball down the field and hit the receivers on routes
with few adjustments. Struggles to reset body with balance to
make a quick and accurate throw. Big and strong, straight line
runner. Must set his feet to throw accurately. Pressure in the
pocket causes him problems. Needs a clean pocket to succeed For
the complete report..Ourlads Guide To The NFL Draft..

Dalton, Andy TCU 6020 213 4.87
Cincinnati Bengals Four-year starter.
A developmental project who is skilled in a
zone read offense in college. As with all other spread formation
quarterbacks, Dalton must work at taking snaps from under
center, develop his footwork to the throwing point, and work
from a pocket among a myriad of NFL nuances of quarterback
play. He does have a skill set such as a quick release, above
average accuracy, and timing on his passes. His catch and release
quickness comes from his offensive schemes’ predetermined
reads. Arm strength is best short and medium. For the complete report

2011 First Round Quarterbacks......

Newton, Cam Auburn 6050 248 4.59
CAROLINA Junior entry.
One-year starter. Junior college transfer. Started
career at the University of Florida. Won the junior college
national championship at Blinn (TX) Junior College in 2009.
Runs the spread, no huddle, run first edition. Confident and
aggressive in his play. Runs the dive and read option. Quick up
the field when he runs the ball. Big and strong. Uses the stiff arm
to ward off tacklers. Physical in the run game. Can take and
give a hit. Runs the ball out of the Wildcat. Can avoid defenders
in space. Question ability to pre-read, sight adjust, and locate
secondary receivers. His field vision and awareness are not readily
evident. Runs the quarterback counter sweep and follows his
blockers. Demonstrates an open field burst to run away from
defenders. Can elude pass rushers. Tall enough to see over the
line. Has a strong arm and fast ball when he needs it. Can zip the
ball on a shallow post route or hit a receiver on a 25-yard
comeback. Generally throws to wide open receivers. One flaw is
that he stares down and locks on a receiver. For complete
report
see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft.

Locker,Jake Washington 6022 231 4.59

Tennessee Three-year starter who is a
dynamic playmaker. Possesses all
the tools and athletic ability to succeed on the next level. Broke
his thumb in game four against Stanford in 2008 which slowed
his progress. Played in 2009 with a group of young receivers
who dropped several passes early in the year but proved to be
talented skill players by season’s end. Returned to the Huskies
in 2010 to continue his development under quarterback guru
and head coach Steve Sarkisian. Fundamentally, Locker is an
ascending player who can throw from the pocket or on the
move from a variety of deliveries. Classic compact release.
Holds ball cheek level and is quick on his release. Plays in both
a spread offense where he takes shotgun snaps and a pro style
where he accepts the ball from under center. His arm is strong
enough to throw deep and all the sideline passes. He can zip the
tough deep comeback route. Has the innate ability to speed up
his delivery under a heavy rush and gets the ball out of his hand
quickly and on time. Can hit a moving target in stride on vertical
patterns down the field. Particularly dangerous on play action,
See Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft for the complete report.

Gabbert Blaine Missouri 6043 234 4.62 Junior entry.

Jacksonville
Two-year starter. Right handed passer who is consistent
and accurate in his play. Gets the ball out of his hand quickly.
Sudden to “catch” and release. He sees it quickly and hits it quickly.
Can speed up his delivery under the pressure of a rush and keep his
accuracy. Carries the ball chest high or higher at all times. No
wasted motion to re-cock and throw. High overhand release.
Demonstrates good touch over the linebackers and in front of the
safeties. Generally throws a tight spiral with good velocity. High
RPMs, good rotation. Will use his eyes and pump fakes to move
the safeties. Athletic and mobile enough to extend the play. A
rhythm and timing passer. Plays in a pass first spread offense that
features slant routes, bubble screens, and quick outs. Will also step
into the deep passes downfield and put the ball between the numbers
on the receiver. A patient quarterback who spreads the ball around
to four, sometimes five different receivers. Accurate throwing the
skinny post down the seam. Deadly on the 18-yard out. Strong
enough to run quarterback draws in the red zone. For the complete
report see Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft..

Ponder, Christian Florida State 6021 222 4.65
Minnesota A three-year starter.
Graduated in 2 ½ years and has been working
on his MBA for the past year and a half. Learning complex NFL
offenses will not be a problem. Has Kurt Warner type accuracy.
Consistent ability to keep receivers on their routes with few
adjustments. Throws a catchable ball with timing, touch, and
rare ball placement to his receivers. Completed 68.8 percent of
his passes in 2009. Patient passing the ball. Lets the play develop
while reading coverages, then delivers ball. Equally skilled at
throwing horizontal or vertical passes with accuracy. Quick
release. Always ready to throw, keeps the ball up at shoulder
level or above. No wasted motion. Tight spiral with velocity.
Quick feet. Gets to throwing point quickly in conventional or
shotgun alignments. Good mechanics. Can scramble out, gather
himself, and throw accurately. Quick and fluid. A poised leader
who doesn’t get rattled. Features the arm strength to fit the ball
into tight spots in the “red zone.” Quick twitch from vision to
launch point. He sees it, he hits it.For the complete report see
Ourlads Guide to the NFL Draft...

2011 Free Agent Outside Linebackers........

The most important factor used to compile the free agent rankings is the
player’s ability and performance on the field. Next is the age and time factor,
especially players over the age of thirty. We then look at durability and injury
issues with the older veterans. Lastly, we evaluate the intangible areas (i.e.:
attitude, work ethic, and off-field troubles) as those red flags often follow a
player to his new team. Restricted free agents rarely move. The players are
ranked in order of their value. Keep in mind that maintenance of this list is
ongoing. Minor errors or omissions are possible. For example, when a player
signs during the season, his new contract’s expiration date is sometimes unclear.
It is likely that a few players are even now negotiating new or extended contracts
with their team. The following signings are as of March 14, 2011.

2011 NFL Draft Quarterbacks

For each position, we have ranked the players listed by
a special Ourlads’ formula we call OSR. When a prospect has an OSR rating
of 15/17, for example, he rated 15th out of the 17 athletes at his position.
Athletes are listed by position alphabetically. Each workout field is weighted
to the importance of the position – i.e.: for quarterbacks – height, the short
shuttle, 3 cone drill, and Wonderlic test are the most important. Broad jump,
vertical jump, 40-yard dash, and 20-yard dash are also important, but not as
important as the first four mentioned. The numbers recorded next to a
prospect’s name exceeded the previous year’s Combine average or Pro Bowl
players’ averages for the past five years. If there is only an OSR rating, the
athlete did not exceed any of the previous position averages.

Ahmad Black and Other Safety Notes 2011 Draft

DeAndre McDaniel can play coverage or fill running lanes in the box.
Physical in his play. Reminds us of fellow Clemson alum, Brian Dawkins but
is 25 pounds heavier. Ahmad Black is a ball hawk who is instinctive. Finished
Gator career with 13 interceptions. Sure tackler in the open field. Special teams’ coverage standout. Can play either strong or free safety. Jermale
Hines plays the hybrid safety-linebacker position. A good athlete who can
cover backs and tight ends. Physical on run support. Andrew Rich is a big
and aggressive safety who majors in run support. Takes good angles in pursuit.
Struggles at times on downfield coverage. A box type safety.

Rahim Moore is a talented and athletic free safety. Generally a consistent
tackler, making 178 tackles over career. Needs more bulk and strength to
hold up on Sunday. Fourteen career interceptions. Quinton Carter is a
physical face up hitter who has sideline to sideline range. Can run with slot
and tight end receivers. Tough in the box. Works through traffic. Deunta
Williams broke his lower right leg in the first quarter of the Music City
Bowl. His rehabilitation time is currently unknown. One of the few safeties
that has corner skills. Tejay Johnson is an active run playing safety in a 4-
2-5 scheme that utilizes three safety positions. Started 38 games over his
career and forced 6 turnovers in 2010. Good agility in tight quarters. Runs
through gaps and keeps outside leverage in run support. Shadows tight end
and makes a play on the ball. Good coverage skills. Robert Sands is a tall rangy
safety who plays in a 3-3-5 system. Will drop into the box as a linebacker at
times. Shoulder hit tackler. Inconsistent wrap up.

Patrick Peterson and Other Defensive Corner Notes 2011 Draft

Patrick Peterson,Prince Amukamara,Brandon Harris and Other Defensive Corner Notes....

Junior Patrick Peterson can take away a wide receiver. Battled Julio Jones for
3 years. Good ball skills. A cut tackler with size. In addition, an elusive open field
runner on kickoff and punt returns. Prince Amukamara is the lone senior in
our top rated defensive corners. Plays it all – press man, off man, zone. Quick to
break on the ball. Junior Brandon Harris is instinctive and was Miami’s best
one-on-one corner matchup in 2010. Competitive. Can play outside or man up
in the slot like he did versus Michael Floyd in the Sun Bowl. Harris is
undersized but competitive corner who has fluid hips in transition.
Will struggle in matchups with big receivers but will accept the challenge. Aaron
Williams is a junior who recently declared for the 2011 draft. Has talent but
needs technique refinement. Better on the inside receivers.

Greg Jones and Von Miller and Other Linebacker Notes NFL Draft 2011

Inside Linebackers:
Greg Jones is versatile enough to play inside or outside in a variety of
schemes. Three down player. Quan Sturdivant has played both inside and
outside. Has a nose for the ball. Doesn’t stay blocked. Slips blocks and gets to
the ball. Kelvin Sheppard is a three down backer who has sideline to sideline
chase speed and is solid in coverage. Casey Matthews plays the game with
passion and a throttle that is wide open. Younger brother of the Packers’
Clay Matthews. Nate Irving was in on 91 tackles and had 21 ½ tackles for
loss. A remarkable senior year after missing the 2009 season due to severe
injuries in June ’09 car accident. Aggressive and explosive in his play.

Outside linebackers

Junior Akeem Ayers is an athletic height, weight, and speed linebacker who
can carry a tight end down the field in coverage, run a play down, or be
disruptive in blitz packages. Von Miller moved around to take advantage of
matchups. Usually double teamed. Struggles to separate from big tackles.
Played on a sprained ankle part of 2010 season. A 3-4 edge pass rush specialist.
Bruce Carter had ACL reconstruction on his left knee 12/14/10. He injured
his knee in the North Carolina State game on 11/20/10. Played in 11 games
making 57 tackles

Nick Fairley and Other Defensive Tackles Notes 2011 NFL Draft

Nick Fairley,Stephen Paea and Other Defensive Tackle Notes 2011 NFL Draft

Nick Fairley is a disruptive penetrator who makes plays. Rotates where he
is always fresh. Good quickness for a big man. Hustles on downfield pursuit.
Pushes the pocket with strength. Cameron Heyward can play any position
in the front line 4-3 or 3-4 packages. Can dominate and shut down the run
game. Disappears at times. Inconsistent. Stephen Paea is an under-tackle
prospect in a four man front. Sudden first step quickness. A penetrator who is
best on the move. Drake Nevis plays in a rotation, a battler who gives good
effort. Plays low and with leverage. Quick hit and spin moves. Christian
Ballard has the talent to play inside if he plays low. A 4-3 or 3-4 end
candidate. A flash player who needs consistency. Jurrell Casey plays the 3
technique under-tackle where he shades the guard’s outside shoulder. Built
similar to Sedrick Ellis and Mike Patterson. A good effort power player. Phil
Taylor lost some weight, changed his jersey number, and may make some
money in the 2011 draft. A size player that can move. Good feet. Jerrell
Powe is a tackle to tackle run stuffer. Can be turned out and moved if he
doesn’t play low. Endurance could be a problem.
